Tell Me Thursday: Groundhog Day 2011

Welcome to this week's edition of "Tell Me Thursday" (about) "Wordless Wednesday". When I got my new camera last year (Sony Cybershot) I went crazy at the soccer games taking pictures. I love getting the "action shots". I was flipping through an album from last year's Spring season, deleting a ton of them because we'll never see those kids again. (At the same time I'm making space on my hard drive, of course!) I ran across this picture and thought what an interesting moment to capture.

The girl on the left is standing literally at an angle, and the boy on the right's foot is literally at waist level. Then you have your girl in the middle, standing there just looking at the ball!

I recently noticed that the operators of the Tell me Thursday website have not ran their linky in a month, and have not updated their Twitter account longer than that. I still plan on doing Tell Me Thursday because it works for me. It's not really a "Wordless Wednesday" if there are words present, correct? :)

Yesterday you saw Sheba and baby. Braden's (2) (paternal) grandparents own them. They have had wildlife in their back yard for ten years or better now. Sheba I believe is about that old. The baby's father is Charlie, who passed away a few months ago. They have a number of acres "out in the country" , very pretty area.

Tell Me Thursday: Missing the beach

Last week I shared about family fun day. This week, I'm thinking about how much I'd love to go back to the beach! We went to the beach with my BFF and her kids and nieces. It was me, her, and nine kids. It was quite the trip and we had a wonderful time. The weather was so beautiful. We are planning on going for the full week next year. The place where we stayed has three bedroom condos upstairs from the level we were on with the two bedrooms this year. We're planning on getting a two bedroom and they're going to get a three bedroom. If everything goes right Jackson is going to take a friend so he will have someone to play with. I'm excited already :)

Although the beach is wonderful for summer, so is the mountains. We love visiting Banner Elk (North Carolina), too. My parents have a timeshare there. We honeymooned there, and have spent a good number of weekend trips there. It's become tradition for us to go up there in September. Last year it was November and it snowed! I've already made the mental note to take some board games and extra movies if we go in November again.

This week's Wordless Wednesday was about Family Fun Day. Every year our church holds Family Fun Day. They rent out the big bouncy things for the kids to play; create a giant fenced in play yard for the toddlers (if you click on that picture you can see a bigger, more detailed version of the pic). The teens and athletic adults play basketball, soccer, and volleyball. Some years we've had a rock climbing wall that Jackson LOVED. There's food provided and everyone brings desserts. I love the dessert tables at our church events. Everything looks so good, but in recent events I've always managed to somehow to gravitate toward something Mel made not even knowing she made it (beforehand) LOL There's patriotic music played, as well as live singing of good, God honoring songs. This year, "Uncle Sam" showed up and passed out pocket sized Constitution/ Bill of Rights booklets. :o)

Its a great time of fellowship, and we end the evening watching the fireworks show that is thrown by the town a few blocks down the road.

Last week you got to see a very happy twelve year old get her first cell phone at her birthday party. This week, we're vacationing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with the same family, my BFF and her kids, and her three neices ... and my two kids. yes, this week we are doing our own experiement of "Wendy and Kristi Plus 9".

She come down last Friday with her four and one neice. My two kids and I arrived Monday at lunch time. The other two neices arrived on Tuesday evening. We're coming home today, bringing two of the neices home with us to meet their grandpa. Poor Jackson, he's been surrounded by girls ALL WEEK! The ages from oldest to youngest is 15, 15, 13, 13, 12, 12, 10, 8, and 7. we wake up, get ready, eat, go to the beach, go to the pool, come in to eat. Go back out to the beach, then to the pool, and in for dinner. Jackson has one weird sunburn, that's for sure! The first day I sprayed some spray-sunscreen on his back, and his burn looks like a rash. His and Hannah's face crisped the first day but I went and got some zinc based sunscreen like the surfers use that can't be rubbed off easily and that's made a HUGE difference. No aloe for us this year, yay!

The second 15 year old just turned such yesterday. We went out for pizza (and got a few funny looks as the whole brood was walking to the back of the restaurant) for dinner. Kristi had T's phone in her pocketbook and surprised her after dinner with it. I have video. You're going to have to come back and see that one once we get home and I get it uploaded. Right now we're sitting at the table, and Kristi is calling out names and numbers helping Jackson enter contacts into my new cell phone (basic, pre paid, not a big deal, etc ..lol)

We're going to be leaving in the next few hours. Pray for us! It's a 4-5 hour drive with minimal stops, but it's raining right now.

Tell Me Thursday: Abbey's Birthday

There once was a girl named Abbey. Her mom is CalvaryGirl's lifelong best friend. Abbey was turning twelve. She wanted a Wow Wow Wubzy cake but the bakery had no idea who that was, so Elmo was #2 on Abbey's list. For our story we're going to assume the saying is true that "once they hit ten, it starts all over again". So if you're shopping for a cake for a twelve year old, take away ten years and think about what a two year old would like!

Her party was at the local putt putt place. Everyone was having a good time. They had just finished pizza and was ready for some cake. Aunt Wendy (aka CalvaryGirl) was mighty proud of that candle shot- notice how one is out and one is not?

After cake, Abbey started opening her presents. She got some clothes, some money in cards, and right before this one her paternal grandma had just given her an iPod Touch. Frankly, most kids assume something that big was meant for the end, and she's humoring everyone in opening the rest of her presents so she can play with her new iPod. (right?)

Oh look! It's a BOX!

OOOHHHHH! Look at what's IN the box! Could it be? Could it REALLY be?

It could! It COULD!!! Just when a twelve year old girl thinks her birthday could not get ANY better~

Her daddy went and bought her a CELL PHONE!!! She has been asking and asking and asking and asking. Mom keeps saying NO, No, NOOOOOO! (But dad said "well I'm doing it anyway", and mom said "I'm not monitoring her minutes, you pay for what she uses" ...)

and LOOK! Daddy got me unlimited text! Who is she texting in this picture? Her "boyfriend". Little did she know when she was headed out to the bumper boats, daddy was texting with her "boyfriend" too.

I'm with my BFF- a twelve year old has no business with a cell phone in all reality; but the look on her face was priceless!

June 2nd was "Happy Jackson Day", and dad and I decided we would surprise the kids with lunch at The Mellow Mushroom. We love that restaurant! It is SO tastey. Each month we try to do something special for the kids on their birth-date. Jackson's birthday is on the 2nd so each month on the 2nd we try to do something special for him, and on the 20th for Hannah. Coming back to the car the kids went to check out the fountain we parked next to on the street one block down from the restaurant. Needless to say, I started snapping pictures.

They were acting like strong guys standing next to the big columns.


I was really happy to see how well the new camera done with the moving water.


This was my Wordless Wednesday pic. The original pic was done in sepia because I intended on submitting it to this weeks IHeartfaces.com contest. When I tried to get there my internet started acting wonky and I was tired and not feeling good, so I went to bed. (Still not feeling very hot)


They were having such a good time. I've always loved going by that fountain. I used to walk by it waking to said restaurant when I was working a few blocks away. Very peaceful.


It warms my heart to see them actually happy together. They were having a good time being all silly.


Like I said, silly! Then I got to looking around, wondering what company was actually in the building we were having such a good time in front of.



Well no wonder! ;o)

Tell me Thursday: The Last Game

This edition of Tell Me Thursday comes from "The Last Game: Wordless Wednesday". Last Saturday was the kid's last soccer game for the Spring season. Jackson's age group was having a tournament, with three teams participating. Of course these are the same three teams we've played all season. The "green" team was undefeated, with five fifth graders, and more fourth graders- translate that into a much more experienced team than the other two. Our team ("blue") had five'ish fourth graders and the rest third graders. I think the "yellow" team had more of a balance.

We played yellow first, and ended up in a kickoff. That's a lot of pressure on a kid when you're in a tournament! Bless their hearts. Jackson (goalie) done so good, I was so proud of him. We won the first to go on to the "final" round with the green team. They were so hyped. They played their little hearts out. It was a great game. They ended up in a kickoff. Their goalie has apparently played goalie in a prior season, the boy was good. JACKSON, was good! He was so focused, it was amazing to watch. The silence when he missed that ball- breathtaking. Side note: mom needs to learn to be shocked silently and not gasp ;)

It touched my heart to see his coach pull him aside and give him a little pep talk before the last kickoff. We were very blessed to have this couple coaching us. His coach had told the kids if they won they could pour the cooler of ice (and water) on him, after the game he told them to do it anyway they were so proud of their sportsmanship:







Although it was hot that day- I'm sure he was a bit chilly right after that!

This pic is so special. The boy is the son of dear friends of ours we don't get to see very much anymore. (He was born 12-17 and she was born 12-20.) His older brother of a year is also on the "blue" team, and boy are they good. We've enjoyed getting to see them each week. What's also cute with the pic is Hannah is #6 and he is #7 (and the other one is #8, lol)

This is probably one of the best goals of the season, she done such a good job getting past Jackson (lol)! everyone laughed at his reaction, and I was so happy to find how detailed this pic turned out considering I took it zoomed in 15x from the other side of the field- lengthwise!

This week's Wordless Wednesday was "Skate dude at work".
I explained some about it in my contest entry here. We had such a good time trying to get those pics. I had a hard time choosing which one to enter in the contest, as you can see. I chose the one for the contest for the height he had and his form- not to mention the hints of orange from his hair you could see at the top of his head! But these were equally as awesome and I really think I'm going to create a poster with the second one. I LOVE the angle of the third though, with the blades of grass- just how I planned it! He's getting really good at skating, I believe. I just realized today I had a video already uploaded of him, check him out-



Not all that fancy, but hey, he's an amateur! He's got some good stuff- trust me, there's more skate videos in your future if you're a regular visitor here :o)

Tell Me Thursday: Sleeping Beauties

The Story:

There's been a bag of scrapbooking supplies traveling with us through two moves. I just keep moving it from here to there, it's like m best friend now. However, I have not looked in this bag in a good three years at least! So the other day I decided, I'm never going to use this stuff- how about I give them away here on CalvaryGirl? So I went through the bag seeing what I had, and found a small envelope with just a few pictures in it. All but three were of Jackson's k4 Heritage program class performance (awwww!). One was a pic off of the balcony at our old apartment once when it snowed.

The last two were these precious pics of my babies sleeping in the cutest positions! Hannah was 1 and Jackson was 4 in these pictures. I remember finding Hannah a lot of times in that position. (The blanket she's snuggled to was my "huggie blanket" when I was little.) Jackson had fallen asleep watching TV early one night when that picture was taken. I remember laughing so hard when I walked in his room and found him in that position. He had gotten too quiet so I had went in to check on him ;o)

They say I'm "always" taking pictures of them while they're sleeping and ask why. I simply say it's because they're so peaceful that way! But obviously I'm not sneaking into the bedrooms as much as I used to cause I had to look back to my JANUARY file to find the most recent sleepy-pics!

Tell Me Thursday: Just about

So what's the story behind my Wordless Wednesday picture? Well obviously it's Jackson playing soccer, but for those who are new to this blog- this is the kid's first season playing soccer. Jackson "plays" it at school, but has never learned the sport, much less Hannah. They're both catching on quickly to the rules, which is good.

I'm trying to make better use of my camera and am loving trying to get good shots of them at their ballgames. Jackson is LOVING playing goalie. He's pretty much the main one, though they do alternate them out at practices and in the games so everyone has the opportunity to learn every position (which, in 4th grade, is what it should be!). He's really enjoying goalie though- which suprises me considering how ACTIVE he has always been. Hannah likes to play goalie, but that's because she tires so easily running around, LOL I keep trying to tell her if she ate less processed foods she'd have more energy. Oh well.

I had about five goalie type shots to choose from, but this one was my favorite. Little do you know I had to crop out a grownup from the shot because the coaches for that particular team has no problem walking in front of us parents of the other team, and standing in our way! :p
